CJ Abrams scored on Pete Alonso’s throwing error in the ninth inning and the Washington Nationals rallied from a six-run deficit for an 8-7 win against the visiting New York Mets on Sunday.

Alex Call doubled leading off the ninth against Ryne Stanek (0-2) and pinch runner Jacob Young went to third on a groundout. Abrams singled to right to score Young with the tying run before James Wood walked. Luis Garcia Jr. hit a grounder to Alonso, whose throw eluded Stanek covering first.

Jorge Lopez (3-0) got the final out in the top of the ninth.

Juan Soto, Luis Torrens and Mark Vientos each had two hits for New York, which lost for just the second time in the past 10 games.

Riley Adams hit a three-run shot to pull the Nationals within 7-6 in the seventh, and Dylan Crews also homered for Washington.

New York’s Tylor Megill was charged with three runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked one.

Washington starter Mitchell Parker endured a rough afternoon. He was touched for seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in five innings. He walked five and did not strike out a batter.

Parker struggled with his control in the first. Francisco Lindor reached on an infield single and Soto and Alonso walked to load the bases. Mark Vientos flew out to right and Lindor scored, and Starling Marte walked to reload the bases.

Brandon Nimmo hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 2-0. Torrens grounded a single to center, scoring Alonso, and Marte came around on Crews’ throwing error. Torrens scored on a single by Luisangel Acuna and it was 5-0.

The Mets added a run in the second when Soto doubled and later scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Marte.

Crews homered in the bottom of the second to get Washington on the board.

In the fifth, Marte reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a double by Torrens to make it 7-1.

Megill left in the seventh after Garcia doubled on a ball that right fielder Soto lost in the sun and scored on a one-out single by Josh Bell. Jose Butto replaced Megill and Call singled, scoring Bell. Adams followed and hit a 3-1 fastball to center for a three-run homer, and the Nationals were within 7-6.

New York had runners on second and third with no outs in the ninth but did not score.
