MLB News: Mets smack 7 homers, down Phillies to snap 7-game skid

Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the third inning Saturday night for the New York Mets, who snapped a seven-game losing streak with an 11-4 win over the host Philadelphia Phillies in the middle game of a three-game series.

The Mets moved into a tie for first place in the National League East with the Phillies, who had a three-game winning streak stopped as they lost for just the third time in 12 games. Both teams are 46-31.

Nimmo and Soto had two homers apiece for the Mets, who hit seven round-trippers — all solo shots. The seven homers were one shy of the franchise record set in a 16-7 win over Philadelphia on Aug. 24, 2015.

Nimmo also homered in the first, Soto went deep again in the fifth and Jared Young and Francisco Alvarez provided more insurance in the eighth and ninth, respectively.

The consecutive homers by Lindor, Nimmo and Soto off rookie Mick Abel (2-1) put the Mets ahead for good and marked the 10th time in team history a trio of players have gone back-to-back-to-back.

Lindor just missed a second homer when he hit a two-run double off the right field wall in the sixth inning.

Soto finished with four hits, including a two-run single in the eighth. The four RBIs were Soto’s most since last Aug. 21, when he collected five RBIs for the New York Yankees in an 8-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians.

Griffin Canning (7-3) earned the win after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings.

The right-hander gave up an RBI double to Nick Castellanos and Max Kepler’s run-scoring groundout in the first before uncorking a wild pitch in the second inning that allowed Otto Kemp to race home and extend the Phillies’ lead to 3-1.

Alec Bohm’s RBI single in the fifth pulled the Phillies within 5-4.

Bohm, Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto had two hits apiece.

Abel gave up four runs on six hits and no walks over three innings — the shortest of his five big league starts.
