Emmanuel Rivera drilled a walk-off single in the 10th inning to lead the host Miami Marlins to a 7-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.

Rivera, a pinch-hitter for Jesus Sanchez, grounded his hit off the body of reliever Gregory Soto (0-1). It was the first walk-off hit of Rivera’s career, and it drove in placed runner Nick Fortes from second.

Miami’s final three relievers — Calvin Faucher, Tanner Scott and Anthony Bender (1-2) — combined to pitch four hitless and scoreless innings.

Each team hit three-run homers in the game’s first three innings — Nick Castellanos for the Phillies and Josh Bell for the Marlins.

The Marlins snapped their five-game losing streak, but they still have the worst record in the majors at 11-31.

Despite the loss, Philadelphia (28-13) still has the best record in the National League.

Miami’s Braxton Garrett, who started the season on the injured list due to a shoulder impingement, made his 2024 debut and left the game with a 6-3 lead with one out in the sixth. He finished with a no-decision, and his final line included five hits, two walks, five runs and eight strikeouts.

Phillies starter Zack Wheeler nearly had his personal four-game win streak broken as his ERA increased from 1.64 to 2.53. He went four innings, allowing six hits, three walks and a season-high six runs, but the Phillies rallied to earn him a no-decision.

Philadelphia opened the scoring in the first. With one out, Alec Bohm doubled, Bryce Harper walked and Castellanos golfed his three-run homer on a 408-foot shot to left-center. Castellanos hit a low curveball.

Miami cut its deficit to 3-1 in the second as Bell walked, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Sanchez’s 384-foot ground-rule double that went over the head of Cristian Pache. On the wild pitch, Bell was initially called out, but that ruling was overturned after a video review.

The Marlins took a 4-3 lead in the third on a rally started by Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s double and Bryan De La Cruz’s walk. One out later, Bell connected on a low cutter, sending the ball 411 feet to center.

In the fourth, Miami’s Vidal Brujan reached on a hit-by-pitch, went to third on Otto Lopez’s single and scored on Christian Bethancourt’s sacrifice bunt to first. Lopez then scored when Chisholm tripled over the glove of Castellanos in right, giving Miami a 6-3 lead.

The Phillies tied the score with three runs in the sixth inning. Garrett allowed a Harper single before walking Bryson Stott. Reliever Anthony Bender entered and allowed Edmundo Sosa’s two-run triple and Brandon Marsh’s sacrifice fly.
