Pinch hitter Yuli Gurriel hit a game-tying, two-run double to push the Miami Marlins toward their 5-4 comeback victory over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals Monday.

The Marlins trailed 4-2 in the seventh inning before Gurriel delivered his double and Nick Fortes followed with a go-ahead RBI single.

Willson Contreras went 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two runs for the Cardinals, who lost for the fourth time in six games.

Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett allowed three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six batters and walked none.

Reliever Huascar Brazoban (3-1) earned the victory and A.J. Puk closed out the ninth to earn his 14th save as Miami ended a three-game skid and won for the sixth time in nine games.

Cardinals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas allowed four runs on four hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. Andre Pallante (2-1) took the loss after allowing the big hits by Gurriel and Fortes.

The Marlins struck in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Luis Arraez hit a leadoff single, reached third on Jorge Soler’s double and scored on Bryan De La Cruz’s groundout. Jesus Sanchez followed with an RBI double before Mikolas retired the next two batters to prevent further damage.

The Cardinals cut their deficit to 2-1 in the second inning on singles by Luken Baker, Dylan Carlson and Lars Nootbaar.

Contreras tied the game at 2-2 with a third-inning homer to left.

The Cardinals moved ahead 3-2 in the sixth inning on doubles by Contreras off Garrett and Paul DeJong off reliever Andrew Nardi.

They extended their lead to 4-2 in the seventh inning when Nootbaar walked, raced to third on Paul Goldschmidt’s single and scored on Nolan Arenado’s sacrifice fly.

Mikolas retired 14 consecutive batters until he walked two batters with one out in the seventh inning. Pallante relieved him and allowed the decisive hits.
