Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Nick Gordon hit three-run homers in the first inning as the visiting Miami Marlins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 10-3 Sunday for their first victory of the season.

Jake Burger and Josh Bell each drove in two runs and Luis Arraez went 4-for-5 with three runs for the Marlins, who had started the season 0-9.

Marlins starting pitcher Max Meyer (1-0) held the Cardinals to one run on three hits in six innings to earn his first big-league victory. He walked one and struck out three.

Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Gibson (1-1) allowed seven runs on seven hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Nolan Gorman hit two homers and drove in all three runs for the Cardinals.

The Marlins opened the game on fire when Arraez hit a leadoff single, Josh Bell walked and Chisholm hit his three-run homer 412 feet to right-center.

With two outs, Tim Anderson and Bryan De La Cruz hit singles and Gordon belted his three-run homer 397 feet.

Arraez hit a leadoff triple in the second inning and scored on Bell’s groundout to make it 7-0.

Meyer retired the first 13 batters he faced until Gorman hit a homer off the glove of a leaping Chisholm at the center field wall.

Jordan Walker followed with a double and moved to third on a groundout. Masyn Winn walked, but Victor Scott II flied out to end the fifth-inning rally.

The Marlins upped their lead to 8-1 in the seventh inning when Arraez hit a single and scored on Burger’s double. Ryan Fernandez walked Chisholm and hit Jesus Sanchez with a pitch before striking out Anderson to end the threat.

Miami increased its margin to 10-1 in the eighth inning. De La Cruz, Gordon and Arraez hit singles to load the bases, then Bell grounded into a run-scoring fielder’s choice and Burger hit a sacrifice fly.

After a rain delay interrupted the game midway through ninth inning, the Cardinals cut Miami’s margin to 10-3 with Michael Siani’s triple and Gorman’s two-run homer 420 feet to center.
