Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jake Burger each homered on Sunday while the Miami Marlins’ bullpen recorded 4 1/3 scoreless innings in their 4-2 win over the visiting New York Mets.

Declan Cronin (2-2), the first of four relievers, got the win after working 1 1/3 innings in relief of starter Trevor Rogers. A.J. Puk and Calvin Faucher took care of the seventh and eighth before Tanner Scott pitched the ninth to garner his 16th save in 18 chances. The relievers combined for nine strikeouts.

New York’s Christian Scott (0-3) took the loss, yielding three runs off seven hits and two walks in four innings while striking out four. Rogers was pulled after 4 2/3 innings, one out shy of qualifying for a win. He was charged with two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while fanning five.

Miami trailed 1-0 after the first of three throwing errors on Marlins catcher Nick Fortes led to Luis Torrens’ sacrifice fly that scored Pete Alonso in the fourth inning. Fortes tried to pick off Mark Vientos at first base but struck him in the helmet and the ball caromed toward second, enabling Alonso to reach third.

Chisholm gave the Marlins the lead for good with one powerful swing. Christian Scott hung a slider on the inside corner and Chisholm walloped it an estimated 399 feet to right field with Xavier Edwards and Vidal Brujan aboard after singles. The homer was Chisholm’s 13th of the year.

Fortes’ second miscue allowed Harrison Bader to reach second base on a tapper in front of the plate to start the fifth. J.D. Martinez cashed in the mistake later in the inning, lining an RBI single to left that pulled New York within a run.

That was it for the Mets’ offense, which again struggled to come up with timely hits when they pushed men into scoring position. They were 1-for-8 in that situation and stranded nine men on the day.

Burger added insurance in the seventh by clouting his 12th homer of the year to left-center off Adrian Houser.
