Eugenio Suarez’s two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie and the Seattle Mariners went on to defeat the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 Saturday night.

Jarred Kelenic and Teoscar Hernandez homered for the Mariners, who will try to sweep the three-game interleague series Sunday afternoon.
Tommy Edman hit a solo homer in the ninth for the Cardinals.

Mariners reliever Matt Brash (2-2) struck out three batters in the top of the seventh and earned the victory. Paul Sewald worked the ninth for his sixth save of the season.

With the game tied 3-3, Kolten Wong led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk off St. Louis reliever Zack Thompson (1-1). J.P. Crawford followed with a single to right field.

The Cardinals brought in Giovanny Gallegos to face Julio Rodriguez, who lined out to center. Ty France grounded back to the mound, with both runners advancing. Suarez then lined a two-run single to left to give the Mariners their first lead.

Seattle starter Luis Castillo allowed more runs (three) than he had in his previous four starts to open the season (two). The right-hander allowed seven hits over five innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the first. Lars Nootbaar led off by grounding a single to left field, and Alec Burleson singled to center. An out later, Nolan Arenado lined a run-scoring single to right.

Nolan Gorman drew a two-out walk to load the bases, but Castillo struck out Tyler O’Neill to end the inning.

Kelenic tied it with one out in the bottom of the second with a solo shot to left.

The Cardinals regained the lead in the third. Burleson led off by grounding a single into right. Two outs later, Willson Contreras lined an RBI double to right-center. Gorman followed with a double into the right-field corner, making it 3-1.

Seattle tied it in the sixth. Cal Raleigh lined a one-out single to right, and Hernandez followed with a two-run shot to right-center on a 3-2 count to end the night for St. Louis starter Miles Mikolas.

Mikolas allowed three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. The right-hander walked two and fanned four.
