New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto was scratched before Saturday’s 9-3 road loss to the Toronto Blue Jays with a bruised right hand.

Soto injured his hand sliding into home plate in the fourth inning of New York’s 16-5 win over Toronto on Friday. His status for Sunday’s game is uncertain after X-rays came back negative.

“He took some swings pregame, and it just wasn’t good enough to go today,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after Saturday’s game. “Obviously, (Soto will have) a lot of treatment today into tonight. We’ll see what we have tomorrow.”

Boone added that Soto could undergo additional testing next week in New York.

Soto, 25, is batting .302 with 20 home runs and 60 RBIs in his first season with the Yankees. His 1.004 OPS ranks third in MLB behind teammate Aaron Judge (1.134) and Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (1.054) entering Saturday’s late games.

Oswaldo Cabrera went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Saturday starting for Soto in right field.

New York is 4-11 over its last 15 games and has slipped into second place in the American League East behind the Baltimore Orioles.
