Jose Siri’s two-run double in the eighth inning allowed the Tampa Bay Rays to overcome what had been a three-run deficit in a 4-3 victory against the host Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.

Jose Caballero homered and Amed Rosario had three hits for the Rays, who were in danger of enduring a three-game series sweep. They won for the fourth time in their last 13 games.

Gunnar Henderson, who homered, and Adley Rutschman both had three hits for the Orioles, who lost for just the second time in their last 10 games.

The teams combined for 28 hits and left a total of 22 runners on base, with the Orioles stranding 13 of those.

Rays starter Zack Littell allowed three runs and 11 hits and a walk, and withstood the rash of Orioles base runners relatively well. Shawn Armstrong (2-1) was the winning pitcher with a shutout inning in relief. Peter Fairbanks worked the ninth for his sixth save.

Cole Irvin went 6 1/3 innings in a starting role for Baltimore, allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk.

Tampa Bay’s comeback began in the fifth inning when Yandy Diaz’s sacrifice fly closed the gap to 3-1.

Caballero hit his third homer of the season to lead off the seventh off Irvin.

To begin the eighth, Isaac Paredes and Rosario hit back-to-back singles before Siri’s double knocked in two runs against reliever Dillon Tate (2-1).

Henderson hit his 19th home run off the season on the second pitch of the bottom of the first inning off Littell. Anthony Santander and Rutschman added run-scoring singles in the third and fourth innings, respectively.

Caballero and Harold Ramirez each posted two hits for Tampa Bay. Baltimore’s Austin Hays added two hits.

In a strange midgame development, Orioles infielder Jorge Mateo was hit on the back of the helmet by teammate Cedric Mullins bat while in the on-deck circle and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the fourth inning as he was checked out.
