Jake Rogers hit a grand slam and drove in seven runs, Kerry Carpenter homered twice in his return from the injured list and the Detroit Tigers clobbered the visiting Seattle Mariners 15-1 on Tuesday.

Rogers’ seven RBIs were the most by a Tiger since Ryan Raburn drove in seven against the Chicago White Sox in 2007. Rogers had two doubles in addition to his homer.

Carpenter, sidelined since late May due to a spinal stress fracture, had three hits and drove in three runs. Gio Urshela supplied four hits, including a homer, and scored three runs. Javier Baez added a two-run shot.

Detroit starter Tarik Skubal (14-4) gave up one run on three hits and one walk while striking out nine in six innings. Joey Wentz tossed the last three innings for his first career save.

Seattle’s George Kirby (8-9) was charged with 11 runs on 13 hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked one and fanned five while becoming the first major league pitcher to yield 11 earned runs in a game this year.

The Tigers pushed across a run in the first inning on Bligh Madris’ RBI single.

Detroit stretched its lead to 5-0 in the third. With one out, the left-handed-hitting Carpenter went to the opposite field for his first home run of the contest. Colt Keith followed with a single, and he advanced to third on Urshela’s single.

Madris’ infield single scored Keith. One out later, Rogers hit an opposite-field double to bring home Urshela and Madris.

Seattle scored in the fourth. Randy Arozarena had a leadoff single and Justin Turner was hit by a pitch. Julio Rodriguez bounced into a double play before Mitch Haniger singled to bring in Turner.

Carpenter pulled the ball for his second homer of the game, which occurred in the bottom of the frame. It was preceded by a single from Matt Vierling.

The Tigers were just getting started. Keith and Urshela singled and Madris walked to load the bases. One out later, Rogers unloaded on a fastball for his grand slam to cap off a six-run inning and knock Kirby from the game.

Urshela led off the bottom of the sixth with his solo shot. Back-to-back doubles by Parker Meadows and Rogers made it 13-1. Baez capped off the four-run inning with his two-run blast.
