MLB News: Jake Cave drives in four as Twins finish sweep of Giants

Jake Cave homered, doubled and drove in four runs to help the Minnesota Twins to an 8-3 win against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon and complete a three-game sweep.

Carlos Correa and Max Kepler each had two hits and an RBI for the Twins, who had lost six in a row heading into the series.

Minnesota starter Aaron Sanchez allowed one run and six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one.

Devin Smeltzer (5-2) allowed three hits in 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Twins.

Brandon Crawford had three hits and Austin Wynns had two for the Giants, who have lost four in a row.

Giants starter Jakob Junis (4-4) allowed six runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out two with no walks.

Austin Slater reached on an infield single to start the third inning for San Francisco and he scored on a one-out ground-rule double by LaMonte Wade Jr. for a 1-0 lead.

The Twins tied the score 1-1 in their half of the third when Gilberto Celestino doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a one-out double by Correa.

Sanchez was lifted after he hit Mike Yastrzemski with a pitch to put runners on first and second with two outs in the fourth. Emilio Pagan entered and walked back-to-back batters to force in a run and give the Giants a 2-1 lead.

The Twins moved ahead 3-2 in the fourth when Cave belted a two-run homer to right field.

The Giants put their leadoff batter on base for the fourth time in five innings when Evan Longoria doubled in the fifth. Crawford followed with a one-out RBI single to tie the score 3-3.

Minnesota blew the game open with five runs in their half of the fifth.

The Twins put their leadoff batter on base for the third straight inning and Kepler and Jose Miranda came through with back-to-back RBI doubles with one out to move Minnesota back ahead 5-3 and end the day for Junis.

Alex Young entered and walked Nick Gordon before surrendering an RBI double to Gio Urshela followed by a two-run double by Cave to make it 8-3.
