J.T. Ginn earned the win by tossing 5 1/3 solid innings in his season debut Saturday afternoon for the host Athletics, who beat the New York Mets 3-1 in the middle game of a three-game interleague series in West Sacramento, Calif.

Tyler Soderstrom, JJ Bleday and Jhonny Pereda had an RBI apiece for the Athletics, who won for the second time in six games overall while improving to 2-6 at their new Sacramento home.

Brandon Nimmo homered for the second straight day for the Mets, who lost for just the second time in the last nine games.

Ginn (1-0), who was drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2020 draft and dealt to the Athletics in March 2022, allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six.

The start Saturday was Ginn’s first big league appearance since last Sept. 26, when he won the franchise’s home finale at the Oakland Coliseum.

Justin Sterner and Tyler Ferguson combined for 2 2/3 hitless innings before Mason Miller recorded his fourth save with a one-hit ninth. Tyrone Taylor singled with two outs and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Miller retired pinch-hitter Luis Torrens on a grounder.

Mets starter David Peterson (1-1) faced the minimum through three innings before the Athletics scored twice in the fourth. Jacob Wilson laced a leadoff double, moved to third on Brent Rooker’s deep fly out and scored on Soderstrom’s single.

Shea Langeliers and Miguel Andujar followed with singles before Soderstrom scored on Bleday’s groundout.

The Athletics added an insurance run in the seventh, when Max Muncy singled off Jose Butto with one out and came home on Pereda’s double.

Each starter had exactly one hit for the Athletics.

Peterson allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings.

Five players had one hit each for the Mets.
