Steven Kwan smacked a two-run homer and Jose Ramirez hit a solo shot as the Cleveland Guardians rolled to an easy 8-0 victory over the host Miami Marlins on Saturday night.
Kwan reached base four times on two hits and two walks while scoring twice for the Guardians, who halted a two-game slide. Josh Naylor added two hits and two RBIs, and David Fry had two hits and one RBI for Cleveland.
Ben Lively (6-2) tossed five innings of three-hit ball for the Guardians. He struck out one and walked none while winning his fifth consecutive start.
Sam Hentges struck out two in the sixth and Pedro Avila fanned six in three innings while recording his first big-league save. Avila retired the last seven batters he faced.
Vidal Brujan doubled and walked for the Marlins, who had just four hits while losing for the fifth time in the past six games. Miami left six runners on base.
Ramirez staked Cleveland to an early lead with a two-out homer in the first inning, his 18th long ball of the season.
The Guardians added a run in the third, as Kwan walked and Andres Gimenez doubled to start the inning. One out later, Naylor singled home Kwan to make it 2-0.
Cleveland broke the game open by sending 11 batters to the plate in a six-run fifth inning.
Kwan hit a two-run homer — his fourth home run of the season — to make it 4-0 and end the outing of Roddery Munoz (1-2).
Declan Cronin entered in relief and committed an error that allowed Gimenez to reach. Ramirez walked before Naylor delivered an RBI single.
Fry followed with an RBI double to make it 6-0. Kyle Manzardo’s sacrifice fly plated another run before Will Brennan’s RBI single capped the uprising.
Munoz, who was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville earlier Saturday, gave up four runs and five hits over four-plus innings. He walked four and struck out three.
