Patrick Bailey started a three-run rally in the eighth inning with an RBI double, rookie Trevor McDonald gave up one run over six-plus innings of his first career start and the visiting San Francisco Giants avoided a four-game sweep with a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

Willy Adames had a bases-loaded walk in the eighth and Matt Chapman added an RBI groundout as the Giants (77-79) remained three games out of a National League wild-card spot.

McDonald gave up his one run on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Spencer Bivens (4-3) did not give up a run over one inning for the Giants and right-hander Ryan Walker recorded the last two outs for his 16th save.

Right-hander Emmet Sheehan tied a career high with 10 strikeouts for the Dodgers, while Michael Conforto had an RBI single. Los Angeles (88-68) saw its NL West lead over the San Diego Padres cut to three games with six games remaining for each team.

The Dodgers’ magic number for clinching their 12th division title in 13 seasons remained at three.

Sheehan gave up just one hit with no walks over seven innings in the team’s regular-season home finale. Los Angeles right-hander Blake Treinen (1-7) gave up three runs on three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.

The Dodgers had a 9-4 advantage in the season series against the Giants.

San Francisco came to life against Treinen in the eighth, getting singles from Christian Koss and Drew Gilbert, followed by Bailey’s double to tie the game at 1. Adames later walked with the bases loaded to give the Giants their first lead and Chapman followed with his run-scoring grounder.

McDonald ran out of gas in the seventh inning. He walked Max Muncy to lead off the seventh before Andy Pages singled. Conforto followed with a single for a 1-0 Los Angeles lead.

The Dodgers finished the regular season 52-29 at home, while the Giants were 39-42 on the road.
