Heliot Ramos tied the game with a two-RBI double in the seventh inning, Jung Hoo Lee followed with a go-ahead sacrifice fly and the San Francisco Giants rallied from a 5-0 deficit to overtake the visiting San Diego Padres 6-5 on Wednesday night.

Patrick Bailey began the comeback with an RBI double in the fifth and Matt Chapman closed the gap to 5-3 with a two-run homer, his 11th, in the sixth, greasing the path for the Giants to put up more runs than they’d scored in a game since May 16.

Still down by two, the hosts seized the lead for good in the seventh after Willy Adames walked and Daniel Johnson, a call-up from Triple-A earlier in the day, singled, ending the night for Padres starter Nick Pivetta.

After Bailey struck out and Tyler Fitzgerald singled to load the bases, Ramos lashed his game-tying double to left field off Jason Adam. On the next pitch, Lee’s fly ball to center field scored Fitzgerald from third with the eventual difference-making run.

The Padres took their 5-0 lead by scoring twice in the first on a two-RBI triple by Gavin Sheets and three times in the fifth, knocking Giants starter Kyle Harrison out of the game. Jackson Merrill had a run-scoring double and Sheets made it a four-RBI night with a two-run single to create the five-run cushion.

Sean Hjelle relieved Harrison at that point and began a run of 4 2/3 innings of shutout relief. Hjelle escaped further damage in the fifth before throwing scoreless sixth and seventh innings. Tyler Rogers retained the one-run lead in the eighth, before Randy Rodriguez relieved a shaky Ryan Walker and recorded his first career save by retiring the final two batters with two men on.

Hjelle (1-0) was credited with the win. Adam (5-2) took the loss.

Both starters allowed five runs. Harrison gave up nine hits and one walk, striking out three, while Pivetta served up six hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

Making his Giants debut, Johnson had two hits and scored twice, while Lee added two doubles for San Francisco, which had totaled just two runs in the first two games of the series, both San Diego wins.

Fernando Tatis Jr. collected three hits and scored twice for the Padres, who saw a three-game winning streak come to an end. Sheets’ triple was just the second of his five-year career.
