San Francisco Giants left-hander Robbie Ray left Sunday’s start at the Seattle Mariners in the fourth inning with left hamstring tightness.

Leading 2-1, Ray threw an 0-1 fastball to Justin Turner leading off the bottom of the fourth and immediately grabbed the back of his left leg. After consulting with manager Bob Melvin and the Giants’ training staff on the mound, Ray walked slowly to the dugout.

Right-hander Sean Hjelle replaced Ray, who gave up one run on one hit and three walks in three-plus innings while striking out four. In his first season with San Francisco, the 11-year veteran is 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA in seven starts.

Ray was an All-Star in 2017, when he went 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He won the American League Cy Young Award in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays when he went 13-7 with a 2.84 ERA and 248 strikeouts.

Rays was traded by the Mariners to the Giants prior to this season.

The Mariners edged the Giants, 4-3, in the rubber game of the three-game series.
