MLB News: Fenway Park concession workers go on strike for first time in venue’s history

Concession workers at the Boston Red Sox’s home venue of Fenway Park have voted to strike for the first time in the history of the venue, they announced Sunday.

The Red Sox are hosting the New York Yankees in the final game of a three-game series today.

Following a three-day vote, 95 percent of the membership of the union Unite Here associated with Aramark, the team’s vendor, voted to authorize a strike of more than 1,000 employees at Fenway, as well as nearby MGM Music Hall.

Over a 113-year history, the venue hadn’t seen a concession employee strike.

Employees have been working without a contract since 2024. They’ve been negotiating to achieve hourly pay increases – Fenway workers make less than $20 an hour – as well as improved scheduling based on seniority and a limit on automation, which affects tips.

Per Sportico, Aramark responded to the strike, stating, “We intend to keep working with the union toward a settlement that works for everyone. In the event of a strike, we have contingency plans in place to ensure that services are not interrupted.”

The Red Sox are appraised as MLB’s third-most valuable team at $6.03 billion per that same publication.
