Erick Fedde pitched seven shutout innings against his former team and Andrew Vaughn homered twice to help the host Chicago White Sox defeat the Washington Nationals 4-0 on Tuesday to earn a doubleheader split.

Chicago rebounded from a 6-3 loss in the opener, winning for the fifth time in seven games. Relievers Jordan Leasure and Michael Kopech completed the four-hitter, as Kopech worked around a pair of ninth-inning walks.

Fedde (4-0) set the tone from the start, retiring the first seven batters he faced before Ildemaro Vargas beat out an infield single with one out in the third. Fedde, who lowered his ERA to 2.60, yielded three hits and no walks while striking out six.

Vaughn drove in each of the White Sox’s runs, delivering a three-run home run in the third inning and a solo shot in the eighth. The Chicago first baseman, who smacked 21 homers last season, has collected each of his three home runs in 2024 over the past five games.

Nationals starter Mitchell Parker (2-2) gave up three runs and five hits in five-plus innings. The left-hander issued two walks while striking out three.

Parker loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth before yielding to Jordan Weems, who needed just three pitches to escape the jam. Weems induced Paul DeJong to ground into a 1-2-3 double play and then retired Andrew Benintendi on a flyout to left field.

Fedde starred in the Korea Baseball Organization last season as he worked to return to the majors. He went 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA while earning the league’s equivalent of the Cy Young Award.

It represented a marked improvement from his time with the Nationals. Fedde made 102 appearances — including 88 starts — with Washington from 2017-22, going 21-33 with a 5.41 ERA.

Washington fell to 2-3 on its nine-game road trip.

Eloy Jimenez added two hits for Chicago after homering in Game 1.

The Nationals’ Joey Meneses, who went 4-for-4 in the opener, finished 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in the nightcap.
