The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Thursday they have signed designated hitter J.D. Martinez to a one-year deal worth $10 million.

The deal with the 12-year major league veteran was widely reported last week. He spent five seasons in Boston, was named an All-Star five times and helped the Red Sox win the 2018 World Series.

Last season, Martinez, 35, hit .274 with 16 home runs and 62 RBIs in 139 games for the Red Sox. The Red Sox used Martinez exclusively as a designated hitter after he started 35 games in the outfield in 2021.

After he hit .302 with nine home runs in the first half of 2022, Martinez hit just .233 in the second half with seven homers.

In addition to Boston and Houston, Martinez spent time with the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks. In 1,409 career games across 12 major league seasons, Martinez holds a .288 batting average with 282 homers and 899 RBIs to go along with 1,522 hits.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers designated right-handed pitcher Jake Reed for assignment. Reed, 30, has been up and down with the Dodgers, Orioles, and Mets in the past two seasons, with a 2-1 record and 5.74 ERA in 28 career major-league appearances.
