David Peterson combined with four relievers on a four-hitter as the New York Mets completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Toronto Blue Jays with a 2-1 win on Sunday.

Pete Alonso singled in a run among his two hits for New York, which won its fourth straight game and recorded its first series sweep of the Blue Jays since July 15-17, 2001.

Toronto put the tying run on base in the ninth when Edwin Diaz hit leadoff batter Alan Roden with a pitch. Tyler Heineman struck out and Nathan Lukes lined out before Bo Bichette was hit by a pitch.

Diaz recorded his second save after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded into a force-out. Toronto scored a total of three runs in the three-game series.

New York took a 2-0 lead in the third inning against Bowden Francis (1-1), who walked two of the first three batters before Alonso singled in a run with one out. Juan Soto then scored on Brandon Nimmo’s sacrifice fly.

Toronto put a run on the board in the fifth inning. Heineman hit a leadoff double, and the Blue Jays had runners on the corners with two outs after Guerrero walked.

Peterson appeared to tweak his back during Guerrero’s at-bat, but he remained in the game after being checked on by New York’s trainer.

After Anthony Santander walked on five pitches to load the bases, the Blue Jays scored their first run when Andres Gimenez was hit by a pitch.

Max Kranick (1-0) replaced Peterson and stranded the bases loaded with Alejandro Kirk’s popout in foul territory.

Peterson allowed one run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked five and struck out three while throwing 91 pitches. Kranick, Reed Garrett, A.J. Minter and Diaz combined to allow one hit over the final 4 1/3 innings.

Francis was replaced by Chad Green with two runners on and one out in the sixth inning. After Green walked Mark Vientos to load the bases, Green escaped the jam when Brett Baty struck out and Jose Siri flied out to center.

Francis gave up two runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

Soto doubled in the seventh inning and has safely reached base in all nine games with his new team.
