The Chicago Cubs activated right-hander Hayden Wesneski and placed left-hander Jordan Wicks on the 15-day injured list on Friday.
In corresponding moves, the Cubs designated Shawn Armstrong for assignment and recalled fellow right-hander Trey Wingenter from Triple-A Iowa.
Wesneski, 26, had been on the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain. He last pitched July 19 and is 3-6 with a 3.94 ERA in 25 games (seven starts).
He is 9-13 with a 3.96 ERA, 60 walks and 174 strikeouts in 184 innings over 65 games (22 starts) in parts of three seasons with the Cubs.
Wicks, 25, is out with a right oblique strain. He is 2-4 with a 5.88 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) this season. In parts of two seasons with the Cubs, he is 6-5 with a 5.02 ERA, 66 strikeouts and 31 walks in 80 2/3 innings over 18 games (17 starts).
Armstrong, 34, was 0-1 for Chicago this season with a 4.91 ERA, four walks and four strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings over eight games.
Armstrong also pitched this season for the Tampa Bay Rays (38 games, seven starts) and St. Louis Cardinals (11 relief appearances). He is 3-3 this season with one save and a 4.86 ERA in 57 games (seven starts). He has pitched parts of 10 seasons with seven teams and is 11-8 with eight saves and a 4.15 ERA over 299 games (16 starts).
Wingenter, 30, has appeared in three games for the Cubs this season and posted a 4.50 ERA with one strikeout and one walk over four innings. In parts of four seasons with the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Detroit Tigers (2023), Boston Red Sox (2024) and Cubs, he is 2-3 with a 5.79 ERA and one save in 95 games (one start).
