Corbin Carroll homered, scored twice and made a sliding catch in right field that likely saved two runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the host Miami Marlins 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also went deep for the Diamondbacks, who will try for a three-game sweep on Wednesday.
Carroll, the 2023 National League Rookie of the Year, went 2-for-4. He has 14 homers on the season and five in his past 10 games.
Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez (2-0) allowed six hits, one walk and one run in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five.
Justin Martinez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his fourth save of the year.

With two outs in the fifth, Carroll hit an opposite-field homer to left to make it 2-0.
Miami got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as Cristian Pache hit a leadoff double and scored on Xavier Edwards’ two-out single.

Miami threatened to score in the bottom of the sixth, as Jonah Bride walked and Connor Norby doubled to put runners on second and third with one out.
However, reliever Ryan Thompson entered the game and got Otto Lopez to pop out before pinch hitter Jesus Sanchez smacked a 110-mph liner to right. Carroll raced to his right to make a stellar catch.
Arizona rested catcher Adrian Del Castillo, a Miami native who had six RBIs on Monday in his first pro game in his hometown.
Two players who were with the Marlins last month — reliever A.J. Puk and first baseman Josh Bell — played for the Diamondbacks. Puk pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Bell went 0-for-4.
