MLB News: Carlos Carrasco, Mark Canha carry Mets past Phillies

Carlos Carrasco tossed six solid innings and Mark Canha accounted for all four RBIs as the New York Mets beat the visiting Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Wednesday night.

The Mets have won the first two games of the three-game series from the Phillies, who have dropped three straight and 11 of 16.

Carrasco (2-2), making his third start since missing just over a month with right elbow inflammation, allowed one run on six hits — including Edmundo Sosa’s homer leading off the third — and one walk while striking out four.

New York reliever Brooks Raley allowed two hits in 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and Adam Ottavino recorded the final two outs of the eighth. David Robertson gave up an infield single to Brandon Marsh and plunked Kody Clemens with one out in the ninth before striking out Sosa and Bryson Stott to close out his 10th save.

The Mets wasted little time taking the lead following Sosa’s homer. Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (4-4) retired the first six batters he faced before walking Daniel Vogelbach to open the bottom of the third. Canha, who entered Wednesday batting .246 with one homer and three RBIs this month, followed with a two-run homer to left center.

The Mets added two more runs in the fourth. Pete Alonso singled with one out and Brett Baty drew a walk before Starling Marte struck out. Vogelbach worked a walk to load the bases for Canha, who hit a two-run single to right.

The four RBIs were the most for Canha since he had four RBIs against the Miami Marlins last Sept. 10 and were one shy of his career high, set against the Phillies last Aug. 21.

Jeff McNeil had the Mets’ only other hit, a fifth-inning single.

Marsh, Stott, Clemens and Bryce Harper each had two hits for the Phillies.

Nola allowed the four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five over six innings.
