Ivan Herrera and Nolan Gorman drove in two runs apiece in the Cardinals’ home opener as St. Louis rallied past the winless Miami Marlins 8-5 on Thursday.

The Marlins led 5-3 entering the seventh inning, but they fell to 0-8 after the Cardinals staged their comeback.

Cardinals starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed four runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked one.

Reliever Giovanny Gallegos (1-0) earned the victory and Ryan Helsley closed out the ninth inning for his second save of the season.

Jake Burger hit two solo homers for the Marlins and Josh Bell hit a two-run shot.

Marlins starting pitcher Ryan Weathers allowed three runs on three hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Reliever Sixto Sanchez (0-1) allowed three runs, two of them earned, and retired just one batter to take the loss.

Down by two, the Cardinals used a five-run seventh inning to take over. With one out, Paul Goldschmidt reached on an error, and Nolan Arenado and Herrera followed with singles to produce one run.

Andrew Nardi relieved Sanchez and allowed a two-run double by Gorman, an RBI single by Alec Burleson and a run-scoring triple by Masyn Winn.

Herrera hit his first big-league homer leading off the second inning to put the Cardinals up 1-0. The Marlins responded in the fourth inning with Burger’s leadoff homer.

Miami powered up in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Luis Arraez hit a single, then Bell and Burger belted back-to-back homers.

St. Louis cut its deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the inning. After Michael Siani was hit by a pitch, Victor Scott II reached on a throwing error that put the runners on second and third.

Goldschmidt drove in one run with a groundout, and Arenado’s double drove in another.

The Marlins made it 5-3 in the sixth when Tim Anderson hit a single, stole second base, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.
