The Milwaukee Brewers signed left-handed pitcher Justin Wilson to a one-year contract, though he won’t be able to provide immediate relief.

Wilson, 35, is still recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent June 3, and he likely won’t be able to pitch for months.

“Typically it’s a 12-month, back-to-the-mound-type recovery, so we’re looking at likely July,” general manager Matt Arnold said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “But a long track record of being successful in a lot of different markets, so we like the chance for him to impact our team positively in the second half.”

The Brewers announced the deal, which includes a team option for 2024, on Saturday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Wilson appeared in five games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2022 and was 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 3 2/3 innings before being shut down for the season.

The Brewers are the seventh team for Wilson, who also has played with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and both New York teams.

He has a career record of 33-24, a 3.41 ERA, 18 saves and 510 strikeouts over 467 innings.
