MLB News: Brewers bomb Cardinals 12-5 on 18 hits

Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run homer and an RBI single as the visiting Milwaukee Brewers rolled past the St. Louis Cardinals 12-5 on Saturday.

Brice Turang also hit a two-run homer for the Brewers, who won their third straight game.

Jackson Chourio homered and added a run-scoring single for Milwaukee, and William Contreras went 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI. Every Brewer had at least one hit among 18 for the game.

Brewers starting pitcher DL Hall allowed four runs on five hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings. Bryse Wilson (2-0), the first of four Milwaukee relievers, earned the victory.

Cardinals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas (1-3) allowed five runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings as St. Louis suffered its third straight loss.

Milwaukee took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Hoskins followed Contreras’ single with a 399-foot homer.

The Cardinals cut their deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning when Willson Contreras walked and scored on Nolan Arenado’s double.

St. Louis surged ahead 4-2 in the second inning. Lars Nootbaar doubled, Jordan Walker walked, and Michael Siani reached on a bunt single to set the table. Brendan Donovan’s sacrifice fly made it 2-2. Paul Goldschmidt followed with a run-scoring groundout and Willson Contreras had an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Brewers surged ahead 5-4 in the fourth inning on Blake Perkins’ double and back-to-back homers by Turang and Chourio.

Milwaukee made it 9-4 in the sixth inning. Chourio walked, took third on Sal Frelick’s single and scored on William Contreras’ single. Adames laced an RBI double, Hoskins followed with an RBI single and Adames scored on a wild pitch.

The Brewers made it 10-4 in the seventh inning when Chourio walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error.

Milwaukee tacked on two more runs in the ninth inning on Perkins’ s single, Turang’s double, Chourio’s RBI single and Frelick’s double-play groundout.

Arenado’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning cut the margin to 12-5.
