Rafael Devers homered and Brayan Bello tossed seven shutout innings as the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the visiting New York Yankees with a 2-0 victory Sunday.

Bello (3-1) held New York to three hits, walked three and struck out eight. He threw a career-high 114 pitches (72 strikes). After a rough start to the season, Bello has pitched at least six innings in each of his last three starts.

Devers hit a solo home run off New York starter Max Fried (9-2) in the fifth inning. It was his 15th home run of the season and increased Boston’s lead to 2-0.

The Red Sox also scored in the first inning when Romy Gonzalez tripled and scored on Trevor Story’s single. Both hits came with two outs in the inning.

New York’s first two hitters in the eighth inning reached base against reliever Brennan Bernardino, but the Yankees failed to score when Garrett Whitlock got Aaron Judge to ground into an inning-ending double play. Judge struck out in each of his three at-bats against Bello.

Whitlock recorded five outs to earn his first save of the season. Trent Grisham collected two of New York’s five hits.

Fried surrendered two runs on six hits in seven innings. He struck out nine and walked two.

The victory stretched Boston’s winning streak to five games. The Red Sox are 5-1 against the Yankees this season.

New York stranded six runners and was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Each team struck out 11 times.

The Yankees were held to four runs and 15 hits in the series. Boston won 2-1 in 10 innings Friday, and prevailed 4-3 Saturday.

The Red Sox trail the first-place Yankees by 6 1/2 games in the American League East standings. New York fell to 21-16 on the road.
