The Atlanta Braves placed left-hander Max Fried on the 15-day injured list and recalled right-hander Darius Vines from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.
Fried developed a blister on his left index finger in Thursday’s start against the Washington Nationals. He earned the victory by allowing one run on three hits and striking out seven in six innings of a 10-3 win.
Fried, 29, will finish the regular season with an 8-1 record and a 2.55 ERA in 14 starts. He struck out 80 batters and walked 18 in 77 2/3 innings. He missed about three months of the season with a strained left forearm.
A first-time All-Star and Cy Young Award runner-up in 2022, Fried has a 62-26 record and a 3.03 ERA in 139 games (122 starts) since making his major league debut with Atlanta in 2017.
Vines, 25, made his MLB debut on Aug. 30 and is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in three games (one start) with Atlanta. He has a 3-2 record and a 2.37 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) across three levels in the minors this season.
The Braves have clinched the National League East and entered Friday with the best record in baseball at 98-55. The NL Division Series begins on Oct. 7, giving Fried two weeks to recover.
