Brandon Nimmo had four hits, including a grand slam and a three-run homer, and drove in a career-high nine runs as the visiting New York Mets routed the Washington Nationals 19-5 on Monday to earn a four-game series split.

Jeff McNeil also homered and added a triple and a sacrifice fly, and Mark Vientos hit a three-run homer among his two hits for New York, the first team in the majors to reach 20 wins.

After blowing a 7-1 lead in the late innings and getting walked off in the ninth on Sunday, New York piled on late in Monday’s game with Nimmo hitting his three-run shot in the sixth, mashing his grand slam in the seventh and adding a two-run double in eighth. He began the day with four homers and 12 RBIs.

Mets starter Griffin Canning (4-1) went five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out five. Jose Urena pitched the final three innings for his first save.

James Wood and Nathaniel Lowe hit solo homers as part of a five-run Washington eighth.

Nationals starter Trevor Williams (1-3) allowed five runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Mets took a 2-0 lead in the second. They had runners on first and third after Vientos and Nimmo singled. Francisco Alvarez doubled home Vientos and McNeil’s sacrifice fly scored Nimmo.

Washington had first and second with no outs against Canning in the third, but Luis Garcia Jr. struck out and Lowe grounded into a double play.

McNeil homered in the fifth to make it 3-0. In the sixth, Jesse Winker and Vientos walked and Nimmo followed with a three-run blast.

The seventh started with Francisco Lindor being hit by a Cole Henry pitch and Juan Soto doubling him to third. Pete Alonso singled to score Lindor, and Winker walked. Nimmo followed with a grand slam to right center.

It was Nimmo’s second career grand slam and seventh multi-homer game.

Before the inning ended, Lindor was again hit by a pitch.

Nimmo’s two-run double with the bases loaded keyed a four-run eighth. The Mets added four in the ninth, including Vientos’ long ball, against position player and former Met Amed Rosario.
