George Springer hit the Game 7 home run that sent the Toronto Blue Jays to the World Series, but the team wouldn’t have been in position to advance if not for the efforts of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero, who batted .385 (10-for-26) with three solo homers, three doubles and four walks in the series, was selected the American League Championship Series’ Most Valuable Player after the Jays edged the visiting Seattle Mariners 4-3 in the decisive game on Monday.

Each time that Guerrero went deep in the series, the Blue Jays won the game.

After going 1-for-4 in the ALCS clincher, Guerrero said in an on-field interview, “We do this for the city, man. We do this for y’all. Four more (wins), baby. Four more.”

Guerrero actually saw his numbers decline in the ALCS from those he put up in Toronto’s four-game win over the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series. The 26-year-old first baseman batted .529 (9-for-17) with three home runs and nine RBIs vs. New York.

Overall in the 2025 postseason, Guerrero is hitting .442 (19-for-43) with six homers and 12 RBIs in 11 games.

The five-time All-Star had a relatively mediocre regular season by his own standards: .292 average, 23 homers and 84 RBIs in 156 games. In his seven-season career, all with Toronto, the Montreal native has a .288 batting average, a .366 on-base percentage, a .495 slugging percentage, 183 homers and 591 RBIs in 975 regular-season games.
