MLB News: Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette not in Game 2 starting lineup vs. Dodgers

Toronto Blue Jays star Bo Bichette isn’t in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the World Series against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.

Bichette played in Game 1 for the first time since he sustained a sprained left knee in a play at the plate against the New York Yankees on Sept. 6. He played second base for the first time in his major league career on Friday and went 1-for-2 with a walk before being pulled for a pinch runner during Toronto’s nine-run sixth inning.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Saturday that Bichette feels “better than expected” and will be ready to play off the bench.

“After the layoff, didn’t want to kill him,” Schneider told reporters.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting at second base and batting eighth on Saturday.

Bichette made it known to Schneider that he plans to enter the game at some point in Game 2.

“He was in my office as soon as he came in, asking ‘what are you expecting? What do I need to be ready for?'” Schneider said. “A nice weapon to have on the bench tonight.”

Bichette, 27, is a two-time All-Star who has played all seven of his major league seasons in Toronto. He hit .311 with a .357 on-base percentage, a .483 slugging percentage, 18 homers and 94 RBIs in 139 games in 2025.

Toronto routed the Dodgers 11-4 in Game 1.

The Blue Jays also announced that Max Scherzer will start Game 3 on Monday night in Los Angeles and fellow right-hander Shane Bieber will start Game 4.

Scherzer, 41, gave up two runs and three hits over 5 2/3 innings when Toronto defeated the Seattle Mariners in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. That’s his lone start of the postseason.

Bieber, 30, is 1-0 with a 4.38 ERA in three starts this postseason. The victory came in Game 3 of the ALCS when he allowed two runs and four hits over six innings against Seattle.

Blue Jays legend Joe Carter, who delivered a famous walk-off, three-run homer to win the 1993 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, will throw out the first pitch Saturday night.
