MLB News: Benches empty in Game 7 after Jays’ Andres Gimenez hit by pitch

TORONTO — The benches and bullpens emptied with one out in the bottom of the fourth in Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday night when Los Angeles reliever Justin Wrobleski hit Toronto’s Andres Gimenez with a pitch.

Groups of players moved around the infield with nothing more coming from the skirmish.

The Blue Jays led 3-1 on Bo Bichette’s three-run homer in the bottom of the third before the Dodgers responded with a run in the top of the next inning on Teoscar Hernandez’s sacrifice fly.

Wrobleski retired Ernie Clement, the No. 8 batter in the order, on a groundout to shortstop to start the fourth. The left-hander threw pitches inside to the left-handed-hitting Gimenez before catching him on the hand on a 2-2 count. That set off a verbal exchange between the two and the resulting congregation of players from both teams on the diamond.

The next batter, designated hitter George Springer, hit an infield single that bounced off Wrobleski, much to the crowd’s delight. With runners at first and second, Wrobleski struck out Nathan Lukes swinging and coaxed a flyout to center from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for a scoreless stanza.
