Logan O’Hoppe made franchise history while homering in his fourth straight game, and Jorge Soler hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the sixth inning, as the Los Angeles Angels beat the visiting Cleveland Guardians 6-2 on Sunday in Anaheim.

With a second-inning solo shot, O’Hoppe, who also singled, became the first Angels catcher to homer in four consecutive contests. He’s batting .345 with five home runs and nine RBIs in seven games for Los Angeles, which has won two straight to win its third consecutive series to open 2025.

Soler, meanwhile, lined a 0-2 slider from Cleveland’s Luis Ortiz (0-2) over the left-field wall to break a 2-2 tie and give the Angels a lead they’d never relinquish. Kyren Paris homered in the eighth for Los Angeles, which got five innings of two-run, one-hit ball from starter Tyler Anderson.

Kyle Manzardo homered for one of Cleveland’s three hits. Ortiz allowed three runs and seven hits over six innings for the Guardians, who went 3-6 while opening the season on the road.

Cleveland wasted no time getting on the board via Lane Thomas’s first-inning sacrifice fly to left. That came after Anderson issued back-to-back walks to Jose Ramirez and Carlos Santana, who each moved up one base on a double steal.

Los Angeles, though, went ahead with two runs in the second. O’Hoppe stayed hot by barely clearing the left-field wall off Ortiz to tie things at 1-1. Then with one out, Paris singled, stole second and scored on Tim Anderson’s two-out base hit to left.

Cleveland tied things in the fourth inning with its first hit of the day. With two out and nobody on, Manzardo curled an Anderson pitch just inside the right-field foul pole.

After Soler’s homer, Los Angeles added on an inning later when it loaded the bases against Cleveland’s Cade Smith and scored twice on sacrifice flies from Luis Rengifo and Soler.

Los Angeles’ Ryan Zeferjahn (1-0) earned the win while allowing a hit and striking out three in an inning of work.
