Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano was removed in the second inning of Wednesday’s game in Milwaukee when he was struck in his throwing arm by a 107 mph liner off the bat of Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers.

Soriano sustained a right forearm contusion, X-rays were negative for a fracture.

The Brewers had runners on first and second with one out when Bauers hit a scorcher that hit Soriano in his arm. The ball trickled toward the third base line and loaded the bases in a scoreless game. Soriano buckled over in pain, then entered a squatting position.

Soriano, 26, has thrown a career-high 169 innings this season, more than he threw in his first two seasons in the majors combined. He has a 10-10 record, a 4.10 ERA and 152 strikeouts to 78 walks.

Connor Brogdon came on for Soriano, who walked off the field unassisted, but he was unable to escape the jam, allowing all three inherited runners to score plus two more in a five-run Brewers inning.
