Major League Baseball moved to address at least one gripe about its All-Star Game, with participants now set to wear their regular home and road team uniforms in the Midsummer Classic.
Since 2021, players on the American League and National League clubs have worn All-Star Game specific uniforms. Starting with the 2025 game at Atlanta, National League players once again will wear their home white uniforms and American League players will don their typical road garb.
There will be an All-Star Game specific jersey worn during other All-Star Week activities, although participants in next year’s Home Run Derby will wear their regular team uniforms.
Participants will still wear an All-Star Game-specific cap the entire week.
MLB also will address complaints that were made to the new 2024 regular-season uniforms, including materials used and larger lettering for players names, which some teams have already implemented.
Complaints were almost instant after the All-Star Game specific jerseys were put into use at Colorado in 2021, with the American League wearing an all-navy blue jersey. The visiting team uniforms have been a solid dark color ever since, including this year’s National League jersey that was all black.
All-Star Game participants wore their team-issued uniforms from the 1930s until 2019.
