Aaron Judge hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning and the visiting New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 on Tuesday.
Judge has three home runs to help the Yankees take the first two games of the four-game series. New York’s Isiah Kiner-Falefa added a solo home run.
Kevin Kiermaier hit a solo shot for Toronto.
Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman allowed three runs (two earned), five hits and two walks while striking out 10 in seven innings.
Yankees right-hander Domingo German pitched three perfect innings with two strikeouts before being ejected by plate umpire James Hoye after an inspection for illegal substances.
Ryan Weber (1-0) threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.
Wandy Peralta survived a walk and an error in the bottom of the ninth to earn his third save. He induced a game-ending, double-play grounder from Santiago Espinal.
Kiermaier hit his third homer of the season with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. George Springer singled and scored on Bo Bichette’s double, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s RBI single tied the game 3-3. Weber entered to get the final out of the inning.
Guerrero later left the game in the top of the ninth with right knee discomfort and was going for an MRI.
With the score 3-3, New York’s Jose Trevino led off the eighth with a single against Erik Swanson (2-2). Aaron Hicks pinch-ran, and Judge hit a one-out blast 448 feet to center for his 11th home run of the season.
Kiner-Falefa doubled against Anthony Bass in the ninth, took third on a flyout and scored on Gleyber Torres’ sacrifice fly.
Kiner-Falefa led off the third inning with a walk, took third on Trevino’s single and scored on Torres’ single. After Judge struck out, a passed ball put runners at second and third with one out.
Harrison Bader grounded out to shortstop, and Torres was out trying to advance to third to complete a double play. Trevino scored from third before the final out was recorded.
Kiner-Falefa hit his first home run of the season with one out in the fifth. Trevino and Torres followed with singles, but Torres was retired trying for a double and Judge struck out.
