The Pirates got a three-homer game from one of their players for the second time in as many days as Michael Perez accomplished the feat on Thursday during Pittsburgh’s 8-7 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers.

A day earlier, Bryan Reynolds swatted three home runs in a 8-7 win over the Washington Nationals. It’s just the second time a team has had teammates with three-homer games in consecutive contests. The Atlanta Braves did so in September 2020.

Oneil Cruz and Jack Suwinski also homered for the Pirates, who have won two in a row after beating Milwaukee for the first time in seven tries this year.

Pittsburgh starter JT Brubaker (2-7) gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings, with six strikeouts and two walks.

Dodgers 3, Padres 1

Justin Turner hit a pair of home runs, including a go-ahead, two-run shot in the seventh inning, as first-place Los Angeles opened a four-game series against second-place San Diego with a home victory.

Turner went 3-for-3, while five Dodgers pitchers held the Padres’ offense in check. Reliever Evan Phillips (2-3) tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings for the win. Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out two, for his 14th save.

Padres starter Joe Musgrove (8-2) gave up three runs on five hits over seven innings, with a walk and a season-high 10 strikeouts. San Diego’s Manny Machado had a hit and struck out three times in his return after missing the previous nine games because of a sprained left ankle.

Cubs 15, Reds 7

Patrick Wisdom belted a grand slam for one of his two homers and had a career-high six RBIs as Chicago rolled over visiting Cincinnati.

Wisdom’s slam highlighted a five-run second inning, and he added a solo shot in the sixth as the Cubs matched a season high with 23 hits to win for the fifth time in eight games. Christopher Morel became the first Cubs rookie since Micah Hoffpauir in 2008 to record a five-hit game.

Joey Votto and Tommy Pham each homered for one of their three hits apiece, but Cincinnati lost for the second straight night after winning three of four.

Blue Jays 4, Rays 1

Yusei Kikuchi struck out eight, Teoscar Hernandez and Santiago Espinal hit two-run homers and Toronto defeated visiting Tampa Bay.

Kikuchi (3-4) allowed one run, four hits and one walk in six innings. Hernandez also had a double and single in the opener of a five-game series.

Isaac Paredes hit a home run for the Rays, who took their third loss in a row.

Phillies 14, Braves 4

Nick Castellanos hit a home run and single and drove in three runs, Kyle Schwarber added a three-run home run and host Philadelphia soundly defeated Atlanta.

Darick Hall contributed two home runs and three RBIs while Rhys Hoskins had a solo homer for the Phillies, who salvaged the finale of the three-game series. Phillies starter Aaron Nola (5-5) tossed seven innings and gave up seven hits and four runs. He struck out eight and walked one.

Michael Harris hit a two-run home run and Adam Duvall added a homer and single for the Braves. Austin Riley had three hits and Marcell Ozuna chipped in with two hits. Braves starter Ian Anderson (6-5) lasted only two innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits.

Guardians 5, Twins 3

Cleveland got a two-run, walk-off home run for the second consecutive day when Andres Gimenez’s blast in the ninth inning shocked visiting Minnesota.

Gimenez’s ninth home run of the season came with two outs and traveled an estimated 411 feet to right-center. Teammate Josh Naylor ripped a two-run homer on Wednesday to defeat the Twins 7-6.

Jose Miranda’s three-run double put Minnesota up 3-1 in the third, but the Guardians rallied with two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Astros 2, Yankees 1

Luis Garcia carried a shutout into the sixth inning before four relievers held the line as Houston topped visiting New York.

Garcia (6-5) allowed one run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The Yankees’ only run came when Anthony Rizzo drilled Garcia’s 0-2 fastball into the right field seats during the sixth inning for his 21st home run.

Alex Bregman provided the Astros’ offense with a bases-loaded double in the third off Luis Severino (4-3). The Yankees’ right-hander allowed two runs on three hits and two walks, with four strikeouts, over six innings.

Mariners 8, A’s 6

Julio Rodriguez and Dylan Moore homered as Seattle topped visiting Oakland for its third consecutive victory and its eighth in 10 games.

Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (9-3) allowed four runs on eight hits in six-plus innings, with one walk and three strikeouts. Paul Sewald pitched the ninth for his eighth save.

Ramon Laureano homered twice and drove in four runs and Elvis Andrus also went deep for the A’s, who lost their fourth in a row and finished June with a 5-21 record.
