Michael Chavis hit a two-run homer, Oneil Cruz a solo shot Saturday to help the Pittsburgh Pirates top the visiting Milwaukee Brewers 7-4.
Daniel Vogelbach added a two-run single, Diego Castillo an RBI double for the Pirates.
Pittsburgh starter Bryse Wilson (1-4), just recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, gave up two runs and eight hits in six innings, with four strikeouts and one walk.
David Bednar pitched the ninth for his 12th save.
Kolten Wong hit a solo homer and RBI single, Christian Yelich a solo homer and Jace Peterson an RBI double for the Brewers.
Milwaukee starter Aaron Ashby (1-6), fresh off the IL (left forearm inflammation), allowed four runs and five hits in 3 2/3 innings, with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Brewers struck first, in the first. Yelich got hit by a pitch and, an out later, went to second on Rowdy Tellez’s groundout. Yelich went to third on Andrew McCutchen’s infield single and scored on Wong’s single to left.
In the third, Tyler Heineman singled to center, went to second on Tucupita Marcano’s sacrifice bunt and scored to tie it on Bryan Reynolds’ grounder that Milwaukee could not turn into a double play. Chavis followed with his ninth homer, to right on a 3-0 pitch, to give Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead.
Cruz’s two-out homer to right, his third, gave the Pirates a 4-1 lead in the fourth.
The Brewers got that run back in the fifth when Yelich stretched his hitting streak to 11 with his eighth homer to make it 4-2.
In the bottom of the fifth against Trevor Gott, Ke’Bryan Hayes and Reynolds walked and advanced on Chavis’ groundout. Hoby Milner relieved Gott, and Vogelbach drove both runners in with a single to right-center. Castillo sent Vogelbach home with a double to left-center to give Pittsburgh a 7-2 lead.
With one out in the eighth, Wong hit his sixth homer, to right-center off Chase De Jong, to make it 7-3. Luis Urias singled to left and, an out later, scored on Peterson’s double to right.
