The New York Mets placed infielder Luis Guillorme on the 10-day injured list Monday with a groin strain, which is expected to keep him out for four to six weeks.

Infielder Deven Marrero, who was signed as a free agent June 25 after starting the season in the independent Atlantic League, was called up in a corresponding move. New York also placed catcher Tomas Nido on the COVID-related IL and recalled catcher Michael Perez.

The 27-year-old Guillorme was in the midst of a renaissance season for the Mets, sporting a slash line of .283/.355/.357 with 11 doubles and 14 RBIs. He has played in a career-high 86 games.

“It is what it is,” Mets manager Buck Showalter said Monday. “He’s done a lot of things for us. We’ll try to hold the fort down. It’s part of baseball.”

Guillorme has played all over the infield this season — 54 games at second, 22 at third and 11 at shortstop. He’s committed just three errors all season, one at each position. In five seasons in New York, he is a .271 career hitter with four home runs and 36 RBIs in 264 games.

Nido, 28, was batting .224 with 19 RBIs in 74 games this season, while Perez, 30, batted .150 in 39 games with the Pirates earlier this season before he was traded to the Mets on July 23 for cash considerations.

The Mets open a critical four-game series in Atlanta Monday night.
