Franchy Cordero went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the offense and Josh Winckowski earned his second win in three starts as the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 5-2 on Monday night.

The Red Sox scored single runs in three of the first four innings and added two in the fifth en route to their second straight win and fifth in seven games on the current homestand.

Jarren Duran went 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Trevor Story also scored a pair of runs.

Winckowski (2-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball and Tanner Houck earned his fifth save of the season for Boston.

Javier Baez hit two doubles, and rookie Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI for Detroit, which had 10 hits as a team.

The Tigers had won back-to-back games following a six-game losing streak.

The Red Sox took a quick first-inning lead as Duran drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on J.D. Martinez’s line single to right.

Torkelson knocked a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in a game-tying run in the top of the second.

Boston brought across single runs in the third and fourth innings to jump back ahead, starting with Rafael Devers’ run-scoring double to right in the third. Christian Vazquez made it a two-run game for the first time when he sent a sac fly to right in the fourth.

In the fifth, Cordero lined his third hit in three at-bats into center field for a two-run single to increase Boston’s lead to 5-1. Alex Verdugo’s single and a double by Story set up Cordero.

Detroit’s Alex Faedo (1-4) tossed 4 1/3 innings in the loss. He allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out two.

The Tigers clawed a bit closer as Jonathan Schoop ripped a run-scoring double deep to right-center in the seventh. Verdugo’s diving catch on an Eric Haase line drive ended the inning without any further damage.

Detroit put two runners in scoring position after Baez’s two-out double in the eighth, but Red Sox reliever Matt Strahm struck out Riley Greene looking.
