Austin Slater drilled a two-run tiebreaking double in the top of the ninth inning to help the San Francisco Giants halt a season-worst six-game slide with a 7-5 victory over the host Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night in Phoenix.

Darin Ruf slammed a tying two-run, pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning for the Giants, who overcame a 4-0 deficit to win for just the fourth time in their past 16 games.

Alek Thomas had a two-run single for Arizona, which failed to complete a three-game sweep of the Giants.

Mike Yastrzemski was hit by a pitch from Joe Mantiply (1-2) to start the ninth inning. Sean Poppen replaced Mantiply and gave up Wilmer Flores’ single to center.

The bases were loaded with one out when Slater delivered the decisive double. Austin Wynns followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a three-run margin.

John Brebbia (4-1) pitched a perfect eighth for San Francisco.

Giants closer Camilo Doval, who walked three in the ninth, allowed a two-out, run-scoring single to Ketel Marte. After a walk to Christian Walker loaded the bases, Sam Long entered and struck out pinch-hitter Jordan Luplow on three pitches for his first career save.

Arizona’s Merrill Kelly gave up two runs and two hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three.

San Francisco’s Alex Cobb allowed four runs and seven hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked one.

Arizona struck in the first inning when Marte doubled with two outs and later scored on David Peralta’s single.

In the second inning, Josh Rojas’ bouncing double to right drove in Gerald Perdomo. Thomas followed with his single to make it 4-0.

The Giants scored twice in the fifth, an inning in which an apparent three-run homer by Joey Bart was changed to a run-scoring double.

Brandon Crawford laced a one-out double to right for San Francisco’s first hit off Kelly. Tommy La Stella walked before Bart hammered a drive to left center that a fan caught right at the yellow line on the wall.

It was initially ruled a homer before replay officials decided the ball didn’t clear the yellow line. Bart was credited with a double, Crawford scored and La Stella was awarded third base. Lamonte Wade Jr.’s infield out scored La Stella as the Giants moved within 4-2.

Replay benefitted San Francisco in the eighth as the pinch-hitting Slater was called out when it appeared he reached on a bunt single. The Giants’ challenged and the call was overturned.

Ruf followed with a 429-foot blast to left off Mantiply to knot the score.
