Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mickey Moniak was diagnosed with a fractured left middle finger on Sunday, one day after he was hit by a pitch on a bunt attempt in the ninth inning during the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Seattle Mariners.

X-rays revealed a fracture in the tip of the finger, and Moniak is expected to be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days. The injury isn’t believed to be season-ending.

It is the second time this season that Moniak has suffered a hand injury. He fractured his right hand during spring training when he was a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.

“Obviously you never want this to happen, you want to be on the field playing the game,” Moniak told reporters on Sunday. “Let alone twice in one year. It’s not ideal, but it is what it is.”

Angels interim manager Phil Nevin was encouraged that the injury wasn’t worse.

“Best-case scenario as far as what we thought it could have been with the break,” Nevin said Sunday.

Moniak was the top overall pick in the 2016 draft by the Phillies. The Angels acquired him prior to Tuesday’s trade deadline in the trade that sent right-hander Noah Syndergaard to Philadelphia.

Moniak, 24, is 4-for-14 with two homers and three RBIs in five games with the Angels. Moniak batted .129 with one homer and five RBIs in 47 career games with Philadelphia.

The Angels also claimed Steven Duggar off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Sunday and designated fellow outfielder Dillon Thomas for assignment.

Duggar is batting .189 with four RBIs in 20 games this season between the San Francisco Giants (12 contests) and Rangers (eight).

Thomas was 1-for-11 (.091) in eight games for Los Angeles.
