According to prosecutors, a Missouri woman will appear in court on Friday after being charged with defrauding the family of Elvis Presley by trying to foreclose on the iconic Graceland property that belongs to them. A judge stopped the foreclosure sale after a notice was put in a Memphis newspaper about an imminent sale of the property that rightfully belonged to the heirs of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, in May. CWEB had reported on the judge’s decision to stop the sale.
An unsealed criminal complaint on Friday noted that Lisa Jeanine Findley had been charged with mail fraud and aggravated identity theft. The 53-year-old woman from Missouri, who also has other aliases like Lisa Holden, is expected to appear in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri on Friday.
Prosecutors claim that she had allegedly schemed to sell Graceland, Elvis Presley’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, which has been converted into a museum and gets millions of visitors each day, in a fraudulent manner.
NBC News reported in June that Findley was connected with the Graceland plot. The scheme was a mixture of false identities and post office boxes. Phone and fax numbers reportedly linked her to the scam to defraud the heir of the Presley estate.
The outlet also reported that a source who asked not to be named said that there was a chaotic scene on Friday morning when Findley was arrested from her Kimberling City home. There were reportedly “at least 15 cops” who went to her residence to arrest her.
Naussany Investments had claimed that Lisa Marie Presley owed them unpaid loans amounting to millions of dollars and that they would auction Graceland to collect their dues. Celebrity Riley Keough, the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter of Elvis Presley, filed a motion to dismiss the auction, and a judge ruled in her favor after the notary whose signature was on the fake claim said that she did not notarize it and that her identity had been stolen.
According to the Department of Justice, if convicted, Findley could face a minimum sentence of two years in prison for aggravated identity theft and a maximum sentence of 20 years for mail fraud.
