On Friday, Miranda Cosgrove celebrated her birthday with iCarly cast Jerry Trainor, Nathan Kress, Jaidyn Triplett, and Laci Mosley. The 28-year-old star also received an awesome birthday gift with a cake, the release of a premiere date of the show. The show will air on Paramount+ on June 17. Plus, ca change, plus c’est la meme chose. Some things will change for example bits of the set and cast and the storyline, but some things will remain the same, the cast and bits and pieces of the set.
Cosgrove spoke to EW and gave a glimpse of what fans can expect as the show continues. The core cast is very much in place. Cosgrove will play Carly while Trainor will play the role of her brother Spencer and Kress will continue to reprise the role of Freddie Benson. The show will feature Mosley as her best friend and roommate. Freddie’s mum, Marie Scheer will have a larger role to play.
There’s a new, important addition to the cast – Millicent – the snarky, adopted stepdaughter of Freddie. Jaidyn Triplett will reprise the role of the social media savvy stepdaughter. Reed Alexander will return as Nevel Papperman, Carly’s erstwhile nemesis and Danielle Morrow will return as Nora Dershlit, the iCarly fan who is also a stalker.
The revival of iCarly comes after nearly a decade. The popular Nickelodeon show was on air from 2007 to 2012. Cosgrove told EW that Carly has gone through a lot in the past ten years and so have the other characters.
Freddie has gone through a couple of divorces and lives with his mother. Spencer has become very rich and successful. Carly is somewhat in between the two. She has gone to college and is quite successful. Spencer’s home remains the original loft, where he lived, together with Carly. Some of the loft’s original decor has been maintained or recreated.
The storyline shows that Carly is now in her twenties. She hasn’t kept up with her web show “iCarly” that the three friends – Carly, Freddie and Sam began when they were teens. Cosgrove says that they are exploring several things related to what a 26-year-old would do today if they had a YouTube channel.
Miranda Cosgrove revealed that the revival of iCarly is like “half and half.” There is a lot of the old and there is a lot of the new, both in the sets and in the characters of the 13-episode season this summer.
