Michael “Mike” Gill, a former aide of former president Donald Trump, was shot on Monday during a carjacking incident in Washington, DC. In a statement, his wife said he had died on Saturday. He was the second person to die when a man committed or tried to commit several carjackings. The man was killed early Tuesday by the police.

Early Monday evening, Mike Gill drove his jeep to Washington, DC, to pick up his wife, Kristina. She works at a law office near Mount Vernon Square. He called her and informed her that he was waiting downstairs.

When his wife reached downstairs, she found him on a sidewalk. Authorities said that a man had climbed into his vehicle and shot him. Gill was taken to the hospital. He died on Saturday, according to a statement released by his wife.

On Saturday night, Kristina Gill released a statement announcing the “passing away of her husband, Mike Gill.” She mentioned that his unexpected departure had left “a void in their life” and more. She thanked family, friends, and the community for their love and support. She also said, “Thank you for respecting our privacy as we mourn the loss of an incredible man.”

Mike Gill was the second person to die due to the crimes committed by a person whom authorities named Artell Cunningham of Suitland, Maryland. The 28-year-old had also fatally shot Alberto Vasquez Jr in an earlier carjacking incident.

Cunningham reportedly committed or tried to commit four carjackings after shooting Gill. He was killed early Tuesday by the police when he shot at two police vehicles. Law enforcement officials said that he was undergoing a psychiatric crisis when the incidents took place.

Mike Gill previously worked under the Trump administration at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He also worked with the Housing Policy Council. His biography on the council’s website said that he was the senior president of capital markets. The group released a statement that described his death as a “huge loss.”
