The cloud industry is still in its early stages of growth, and according to Oppenheimer analysts, the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) will play a crucial role in expanding the total addressable market (TAM). In this context, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is poised to benefit significantly, potentially becoming the central “operating system for AI.”
Oppenheimer’s assessment is based on several factors. Firstly, Microsoft’s approach of maintaining a neutral operating system model that supports both proprietary and open source Large Language Models (LLMs) and various other applications positions it favorably. Secondly, the company’s strategy involves broadening its ecosystem to effectively commercialize AI advancements on top of its Azure platform, including collaborations with entities like Meta, Databricks, and Snowflake. Lastly, Microsoft’s extensive scale enables it to introduce AI applications such as Office 365 Copilot to a vast user base, given its reach of 1.0 billion Windows users and 330 million Teams users.
