According to a popular outlet, Microsoft founder Bill Gates has given $50 million to a nonprofit organization supporting Kamala Harris. Billionaire Bill Gates reportedly sits on the sidelines during presidential runs so his reported current donation has created news. According to sources who spoke to the outlet, the former CEO and founder of Microsoft and the chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have privately donated millions.
The New York Times reported that sources said Bill Gates donated $50 million to Future Forward. Other sources also said that Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, is considering a similar donation. The Microsoft founder donated millions to Future Forward USA Action. This “dark money” organization does not disclose the names of its donors, so Gates’ name will not appear on any public filing.
When asked for a response, Bill Gates told the New York Times, “I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty, and fighting climate change in the U.S. and around the world.”
The statement also said, “I have a long history of working with leaders across the political spectrum, but this election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the most vulnerable people around the world.”
Michael Bloomberg and Future Forward have not responded yet.
Bill Gates’ former wife, Melinda French Gates, reportedly donated an undisclosed sum of money to Future Forward, a non-profit organization. Two of Bill and Melinda Gates’ children, Rory and Phoebe Gates, have also become involved as donors and have encouraged their parents to donate to the Democratic Party.
Bill Gates commands huge respect among wealthy individuals in the U.S. His giving pledge has attracted huge funds from wealthy Americans who promise to donate much of their wealth during their lifetimes. This is reportedly the first time philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates have donated to a presidential election, although they have not publicly endorsed Kamala Harris.
The world’s richest man, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has reportedly contributed $75 million to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. In comparison, Israeli-American physician Miriam Adelson allegedly donated $95 million, and Dick Uihlein, founder of Uline Corporation, reportedly donated $48 million.
