Micah Peavy scored 19 of his career-high 30 points in Georgetown’s big first half during a 93-72 victory against visiting Providence on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C.

Jayden Epps racked up 18 points, Drew Fielder had 17 and Jordan Burks added 13 as the Hoyas (16-10, 7-8 Big East) won their third straight home game.

It was the first victory for Hoyas coach Ed Cooley against his former team. Cooley was on the bench while mourning the loss of his mother, Jane Cooley, who died during the weekend.

Bensley Joseph made four 3-pointers and finished with 25 points, Justyn Fernandez notched 11 points and Jayden Pierre posted 10 for Providence (12-15, 6-10), which has lost five of its last six games. The Friars made 10 of 32 shots from 3-point range but had only 13 two-point baskets.

Georgetown, which shot 50.8 percent (30 of 59) from the field, played without injured forward Thomas Sorber (ankle), the team’s second-leading scorer (14.5 ppg).

Peavy, a senior guard who transferred from Texas Christian after a season at Texas Tech, has led Georgetown in scoring in five consecutive games. He also provided game highs with seven assists and six steals. Fielder went 7-for-7 on free throws and pulled in a game-high nine rebounds.

All five Georgetown starters connected on at least one 3-point shot.

The Hoyas began the second half on an 11-3 run for a 59-34 lead.

Georgetown had two sizable scoring spurts in the first half.

The Friars led 20-15 before Georgetown racked up the next 10 points. Providence managed only five points in a stretch of more than four minutes, yet stayed within 30-28 before the Hoyas pulled away. Georgetown scored the last 12 points of the first half, including the last six by Burks.

Both teams made six first-half 3-point shots, but the Friars connected on only four baskets inside the arc and trailed 48-31 at the break. The Hoyas shot 54.5 percent in the opening half.

Providence defeated Georgetown 78-68 on Jan. 25 at home.
