Meta (META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently appeared on a popular podcast and aired his views on multiple topics and issues. He slammed tech giant Apple (AAPL) and detailed the Cupertino giant’s restrictions on other tech products and more. He also said that the company lacked innovation after they introduced their flagship device, the iPhone and that they applied many arbitrary rules that affected integration with other products.
Zuckerberg appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast and criticized Apple on various issues. He said that the iPhone has become an important global device after it was introduced by Steve Jobs but the company’s innovations had stagnated these past decades after Apple introduced the popular smartphones.
Zuckerberg also complained about Apple gaining revenue through platform fees through commissions and in-app purchases rather than introducing new products. He said that the company claimed that integrating its devices with other companies’ devices was difficult due to security issues. Still, he thought that it was not due to security concerns, but it was done to limit competition.
Zuckerberg mentioned specific integration examples, saying that Apple’s AirPods could only connect with iPhones and not other devices.
Zuckerberg also commented on Vision Pro, the reality headset from Apple that has seen relatively lukewarm global sales, which we believe is due to its high price and teething problems as it is a first-generation device.
The Facebook and Instagram CEO said that although they tried a “new thing,” they could not “hit it out of the park.” He conceded that the first version of a product was not always good, and one had to wait for better versions.
Incidentally, Meta also produced reality headsets called Quest and smart glasses with Ray-Ban that struggle to integrate with iPhones. He also mentioned that Meta’s profits could double if Apple removed its “random rules.”
Apple has not responded to the comments made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
