The Facebook founder decided to follow an ancient Roman tradition where rich rulers honored their wives by commissioning statues of them. The rich in other European nations preferred commissioning portraits of their wives and families.
On Tuesday, Mark Zuckerberg posted the unveiling of the statue of his wife, Priscilla Chan, on social media. He added the caption: “Bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife.” He posted a photo of Chan standing near the colossal sculpture in their garden. He tagged the sculptor Daniel Arsham and thanked him.
In the photo, Priscilla Chan wore a pink robe beside the statue. She sipped a beverage from a turquoise mug. Her statue was of turquoise and ash color and seemingly had wings.
Many web fans commented on the post. When celebrity Gayle King asked Mark Zuckerberg if there was a back story, the 40-year-old chief executive of Meta replied to her post.
Mark Zuckerberg replied, “I just try to keep a steady stream of creative projects going. I’ve joked about making a sculpture of her for years, and when the opportunity to work with Arsham came up, I finally did it.”
Sculptor Daniel Arsham reposted the post by the 40-year-old Facebook founder on his social media account on one of Mark Zuckerberg’s most popular platforms. Meta is the parent of Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and other companies.
Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan met at a party when they studied at Harvard. They got married in 2012 and have three daughters. They are a devoted couple. Although they run different businesses—Zuckerberg is the CEO at Meta, while Priscilla is a pediatrician—they come together to run their foundation, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
